He had a strong interest in amateur radio. He was employed at First State Bank in Holly Springs and provided information technology consulting services through his 81st birthday. His other ventures included the first mobile phone system in North Mississippi in which he jointly owned and operated, providing technology consulting using his in-house computer system. He took a position with Lavender Radio Supply in Memphis, Tenn., and purchased a small farm in Michigan City. He held a commercial pilot license with an instrument rating and was licensed to fly single and multi-engine airplanes as well as helicopters.
